How to Leave the iOS 27 Public Beta and Return to Stable iOS
To stop receiving iOS 27 beta updates, go to Settings > General > Software Update > Beta Updates > Off. This stops future beta updates but does not remove the beta already installed. If you can wait, install the next public iOS release when it becomes available. If you need to return to public iOS immediately, Apple says the iPhone must be erased and restored with a computer.
Stop receiving future beta updates
- Open Settings.
- Tap General.
- Tap Software Update.
- Tap Beta Updates.
- Tap Off.
Turning Beta Updates off is the device-side step that stops future beta software delivery. It is different from immediately downgrading the iPhone to an earlier or public iOS release.
Wait for the next public iOS release
If the current beta is usable and you want to avoid an erase, keep Beta Updates off and wait until Apple offers a suitable public release. When it appears, install it from Settings > General > Software Update.
Return to public iOS immediately
If you cannot wait, Apple documents a computer restore path to return the iPhone to the latest publicly released iOS. A computer Restore erases the iPhone, so copy important data first when possible.
- Connect the iPhone to a Mac with Finder or to a Windows PC with Apple Devices. Use iTunes only on an older supported setup.
- Put the iPhone into recovery mode and choose Restore when the computer presents the recovery options.
- Wait for the restore to erase the device and install the current public iOS release.
- After setup, restore data from a compatible backup made before the beta if you have one. A backup created while running a newer beta may not restore to an older public iOS version.
Keep the actions separate
- Beta Updates Off: stops future beta updates.
- Wait for a public release: avoids an immediate erase when the current beta remains usable.
- Computer Restore: returns the iPhone to public iOS now, but erases the device.
- Pre-beta backup: restores compatible data after the OS restore; it does not install the public iOS version itself.
If the iPhone cannot complete Apple's update or recovery process because of a software-level problem, Dr.Fone - System Repair can be considered as a guided desktop alternative for iOS system repair.
