How to Fix 'Not Enough Storage' During WhatsApp Restore on iPhone 18

A WhatsApp restore needs enough free space on both the iPhone and iCloud. WhatsApp warns that insufficient iPhone storage can create a partial backup or make a backup restore fail. Check the actual device storage before retrying rather than deleting WhatsApp data blindly.

Audit iPhone storage safely

  1. Open Settings, tap General, then tap iPhone Storage.
  2. Review the recommendations and the storage used by each app.
  3. Remove unneeded content or offload unused apps when appropriate. Offloading keeps an app's documents and data; deleting an app removes its related data.
  4. Confirm free space in iCloud as well as on the iPhone.

After making room, reinstall WhatsApp, verify the same phone number and Apple ID used for the backup, then tap Restore Chat History when prompted. If a restore fails because of storage, WhatsApp specifically advises deleting the app and trying the backup restore again.

Note:

Do not erase the old phone or its WhatsApp data until the restored chat history and media have been checked on the new iPhone.

Videos can restore only if Include Videos was enabled when the latest backup was created. Messages sent after that backup are not recoverable through that backup.

For a separate computer-based WhatsApp workflow, Dr.Fone - WhatsApp Transfer provides a dedicated WhatsApp transfer workflow.
