How to Set Up WhatsApp on iPhone 18 Without a SIM Card

An iPhone can use WhatsApp over Wi-Fi without a physical SIM inserted, but account verification is a separate issue. Before you start, make sure you can receive the verification code for the phone number already used by the account. Wi-Fi alone does not replace access to that number during a verification request.

Prepare before setup

  • Connect the iPhone to a reliable Wi-Fi network.
  • Confirm that you still control the registered phone number, including any SMS or call route used for verification.
  • Keep the old phone available until the new phone is signed in and your chats are present.

Set up without a physical SIM

Install WhatsApp from the App Store, enter the existing account number, and complete the verification method presented in the app. An eSIM can provide the number service, but it is not necessary merely for Wi-Fi data once the account is active. Do not enter a different number unless you intend to change the number associated with the account.

If you cannot receive a code

Pause rather than repeatedly requesting new codes. Check whether the number can receive calls or texts through its current carrier or eSIM arrangement. If it cannot, restore access to the number first; transferring chats and proving account ownership are separate tasks.

If you also need to move existing WhatsApp chats to the new iPhone, Dr.Fone - WhatsApp Transfer provides a separate computer-based transfer and backup workflow. It does not replace WhatsApp phone-number verification, so you still need access to the registered number when verification is required.
