Keep the iPhone on a reliable connection and do not assume a stalled progress display means that the backup can be recreated from WhatsApp's servers.
Use the supported iCloud restore path
- Confirm that the iCloud backup exists.
- Verify the same phone number and Apple ID used for the backup.
- Make sure there is enough free space on both the iPhone and iCloud.
- Uninstall and reinstall WhatsApp, then verify the number and Apple ID.
- Tap Restore Chat History when prompted.
WhatsApp says a restore can fail when storage is insufficient; in that case, delete the app and try the backup restore again after freeing space. Messages sent or received after the latest backup cannot be restored. Videos restore only if Include Videos was enabled when the backup was made.
