How to Fix GPS Not Working or Inaccurate Location on Samsung Galaxy
Poor GPS accuracy or a complete GPS failure on Samsung Galaxy can be caused by settings, software, or environmental factors. Here's how to fix it.
Step 1: Enable High Accuracy Mode
Go to Settings → Location → Location Services and enable:
- Google Location Accuracy — toggle on
- Set Location Mode to High Accuracy (uses GPS + Wi-Fi + cellular)
Step 2: Toggle GPS Off and Back On
Pull down the quick settings panel and toggle Location/GPS off then back on.
Step 3: Check App Location Permissions
Go to Settings → Privacy → Permission Manager → Location and ensure your maps app (Google Maps, navigation apps) has "While using app" or "All the time" permission.
Step 4: Clear GPS Cache
Go to Settings → Apps → [Maps App] → Storage → Clear Cache.
Step 5: Go Outside
GPS signals cannot penetrate roofs or walls well. Step outside with clear sky view for the GPS to lock on accurately.
Step 6: Update Google Play Services
Google Play Services provides GPS data to all apps. Make sure it's updated via Play Store → My Apps → Google Play Services.
Step 7: Calibrate the Compass
Open Google Maps → tap the blue dot → Calibrate Compass → move your phone in a figure-8 motion several times.
Step 8: Reset Network and Location Settings
Go to Settings → General Management → Reset → Reset Network Settings.
If GPS hardware is damaged (rare), Samsung Service Center can diagnose this.
Dr.Fone Tip: Use Dr.Fone – System Repair to fix software-related Samsung Galaxy GPS issues before assuming hardware failure.
