How to Set a Charging Limit on Samsung Galaxy to Protect Battery Health
Keeping your Samsung Galaxy charged to 100% every day degrades the battery over time. Samsung's Battery Protection feature limits charging to preserve long-term health.
How to Set a Charging Limit
- Go to Settings → Battery and Device Care → Battery.
- Tap Battery Protection.
- Choose one of three modes:
- Basic — adapts based on your usage pattern
- Adaptive — learns charging habits to limit to 80–85% when needed
- Maximum — always stops charging at 80%
Why 80–85% Is Recommended
Lithium-ion batteries degrade faster when kept at 100% charge. Limiting to 85% can extend battery lifespan by up to 2 years of sustained daily use.
Pros & Cons of Charging Limits
| Charging Limit ON | Charging Limit OFF | |
|---|---|---|
| Long-term battery health | ✅ Preserved | ❌ Degrades faster |
| Available charge for daily use | ⚠️ Slightly less | ✅ Full capacity |
| Best for | Desk/home workers | Frequent travelers |
Tip:
If you need a full charge for a long day, temporarily disable Battery Protection the night before by going back to the same menu and selecting Off.
