How to Set Up Face Recognition Unlock on Samsung Galaxy

Samsung Galaxy Face Recognition is the fastest biometric unlock method — your phone unlocks in under half a second. Here's how to set it up.

Step 1: Ensure You Have a Backup Lock Method

Face unlock requires a PIN, pattern, or password as backup first.

Step 2: Set Up Face Recognition

1. Go to Settings → Security and Privacy → Biometrics → Face Recognition.
2. Enter your backup PIN.
3. Follow the on-screen instructions — position your face inside the circle and slowly tilt your head.
4. Registration takes about 10 seconds.

Customization Options

Security Note

Samsung face recognition uses the front camera and is a 2D recognition system. It's not as secure as an ultrasonic fingerprint and can potentially be spoofed by a photo. For banking apps, use fingerprint instead.

Combining Face + Fingerprint

You can use both simultaneously. Samsung will unlock whichever biometric it detects first — face when you raise the phone, fingerprint when you place your finger on the sensor.
