How to Insert and Use a microSD Card on Samsung Galaxy
Samsung Galaxy A-series and some older S-series phones support microSD cards for expandable storage. Here's how to set one up.
Step 1: Check If Your Galaxy Supports SD Cards
Not all Galaxy phones support microSD. Check your model's specs on Samsung's website. Most Galaxy S25 models do not have an SD card slot. Galaxy A-series typically do.
Step 2: Insert the microSD Card
- Power off your Galaxy.
- Use the SIM eject tool to open the SIM/SD card tray.
- Place the microSD card in the designated slot (usually labeled, separate from SIM).
- Reinsert the tray and power on.
Step 3: Format the SD Card
- A notification will appear: "SD card detected."
- Choose: Set Up as Portable Storage (for file storage) or Set Up as Internal Storage (integrates with phone storage — not recommended for older/slower cards).
- For portable storage, tap Format SD Card to prepare it.
Step 4: Move Files to SD Card
- Open My Files → navigate to internal folders → select files → tap Move → choose SD Card destination.
- For photos: Gallery → Settings → Storage Location → SD Card.
Recommended SD Card Specs for Galaxy
Use Class 10 (UHS-I) or higher for smooth performance. A2 specification cards offer better app loading speeds.
