Accessing Digital Wellbeing
  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap Digital Wellbeing and parental controls (near the bottom of the Settings list).
  3. The dashboard shows:
    • Screen time today: Total usage
    • Unlocks: How many times you unlocked the phone
    • Notifications received: App-by-app breakdown
    • Most used apps: Time spent in each app
Setting App Timers (Daily Limits)

Limit time in specific apps (great for social media and games):

  1. In Digital Wellbeing > Dashboard, tap any app name.
  2. Tap Set timer (hourglass icon).
  3. Set the daily time limit (e.g., 30 minutes, 1 hour).
  4. Tap OK.
  5. When the limit is reached, the app icon becomes grayed out and the app is blocked until midnight reset.

Note: App timers can be overridden by the phone's owner via Digital Wellbeing settings. For child enforcement, use Google Family Link as an additional control layer.

Focus Mode (Block Distracting Apps)

Schedule periods where distracting apps are blocked:

  1. Digital Wellbeing > Focus mode.
  2. Select which apps to block (Instagram, YouTube, games, etc.).
  3. Toggle Focus mode ON manually, or tap Set a schedule for automatic activation (e.g., every school day 8am–3pm).
  4. While Focus mode is active, blocked apps show a "Focus mode is on" message.
Bedtime Mode (Wind Down)
  1. Digital Wellbeing > Bedtime mode.
  2. Set your bedtime hours.
  3. Configure:
    • Greyscale screen: Turns display black-and-white to reduce stimulation
    • Do Not Disturb: Silences notifications
    • Sleep screen saver: Optional screensaver
  4. Tap Set schedule to activate automatically.
Screen Time Report for Parents
  1. Digital Wellbeing dashboard > tap View all for detailed per-app usage.
