How to Check an iPhone for Malware?
Can iPhones Get Malware?
iOS has strong app sandboxing, so widespread “virus” infections are uncommon—but scams, malicious profiles, and unsafe links can still cause problems.
Signs Something Is Wrong
- Unusual battery drain or overheating.
- Pop-ups in Safari asking to install something.
- Calendar spam events you didn’t add.
- Unknown device management profiles.
Security Checklist (No Extra Apps Needed)
- Update iOS: Settings > General > Software Update.
- Remove suspicious apps: press and hold app icon > Remove App.
- Check profiles: Settings > General > VPN & Device Management (remove anything you don’t recognize).
- Clear Safari data: Settings > Safari > Clear History and Website Data.
- Review Apple Account sign-ins: Settings > your name > check device list.
- Change Apple Account password if you suspect compromise.
When to Escalate
If you installed a profile from a link or your Apple Account shows unknown devices, prioritize account security: 2FA, password change, and sign out unknown devices.
As a last resort: back up and erase all content and settings.
