How to Reset Your Apple ID Password?
Resetting your Apple ID password is safest through Apple’s official recovery options. Choose the method that matches what you still have access to (iPhone, trusted device, phone number, or email).
Option A: Reset on your iPhone (Recommended)
- Open Settings.
- Tap your name (Apple Account banner).
- Tap Sign-In & Security > Change Password.
- Enter your iPhone passcode, then set a new Apple ID password.
Option B: Use Apple’s iForgot website
- Go to https://iforgot.apple.com/.
- Enter your Apple ID email/phone number.
- Follow the prompts to verify via trusted phone number, email, or device.
Option C: Use another trusted Apple device
- On iPad/Mac signed in with the same Apple ID, open account settings and choose Change Password.
If you see “Account locked” or “Security reasons”
- Complete the verification steps (SMS, email, or device prompt).
- If prompted for Account Recovery, start it and follow Apple’s timeline. This can take time if Apple can’t instantly verify you.
Tips to avoid getting locked out again
- Turn on Two-Factor Authentication (2FA).
- Add/verify a trusted phone number.
- Keep your device passcode enabled (it’s used for secure changes).
🤔 Protip:
If you can’t reset because you’re locked out of the iPhone itself (forgot passcode, disabled device, system glitch), Dr.Fone - System Repair (iOS) can be useful for device access and iOS repair so you can return to Apple’s official password-reset flow.
