How to Transfer Data Between Samsung Galaxy Phones Using Smart Switch

Samsung Smart Switch is the official app for transferring all your data when switching to a new Galaxy phone. Here's how to use it for a seamless migration.

What Smart Switch Transfers
  • Contacts, messages, call logs
  • Photos and videos
  • Apps and settings
  • Alarms, calendar, memos
  • Wi-Fi passwords
  • Wallpapers and home screen layout
Method 1: Wireless Transfer (Most Convenient)
  1. Download Smart Switch on both phones (pre-installed on most Galaxy devices).
  2. On the new phone: Open Smart Switch → tap Receive Data → select old device type.
  3. On the old phone: Open Smart Switch → tap Send Data → select Wireless.
  4. Bring phones close together. Follow on-screen pairing instructions.
  5. Select which data to transfer → tap Transfer.
Method 2: USB Cable Transfer (Fastest)
  1. Use a USB-C to USB-C cable (or USB-C to USB-A adapter).
  2. Connect old phone to new phone.
  3. Follow the same Send/Receive flow — cable transfer is significantly faster for large files.
Method 3: PC Backup + Restore
  1. Install Smart Switch for PC/Mac on your computer.
  2. Back up old phone to computer.
  3. Connect new phone and restore from backup.
Transfer Time (Approximate)
Data Size Wireless USB Cable
10GB ~30 min ~10 min
50GB ~2.5 hours ~50 min

Dr.Fone Tip: For a more flexible transfer option that works cross-brand (e.g., iPhone to Samsung), Dr.Fone – Phone Transfer transfers data between any two phones in minutes.
