How to Calibrate the Battery on Xiaomi / Redmi / POCO Phone

If your Xiaomi phone's battery jumps from 30% to 5% suddenly, or shuts off at 15%, the battery gauge may be miscalibrated. Here's how to fix it.

Is Battery Calibration a Myth?

Modern lithium-ion batteries don't need "calibration" in the traditional sense — but the battery management IC (the chip that estimates charge level) can become inaccurate after many partial charge cycles. The recalibration process re-teaches it the full charge range.

Signs Your Battery Needs Recalibration
  • Phone shuts off at 10–20% battery.
  • Battery percentage jumps or drops suddenly (e.g., 40% → 5% instantly).
  • "100%" drains much faster than expected.
  • Charge percentage is stuck for long periods.

How to Calibrate (Step-by-Step)
  1. Use the phone normally until it shuts off automatically from low battery — don't force shutdown.
  2. Leave it off for 30 minutes (let residual charge drain fully).
  3. Connect to the original charger (or a quality USB-C charger).
  4. Charge uninterrupted to 100% — do not use the phone while charging.
  5. Once at 100%, leave it plugged in for an additional 30 minutes.
  6. Unplug and use normally.

Repeat this cycle 2–3 times for best results.

HyperOS Battery Reset (Software Only)

HyperOS includes a built-in battery optimization reset:
1. Settings → Battery → Battery health (if available on your model).
2. Some models: Settings → Battery → Optimized charging → reset charging data.

When Calibration Won't Help
Situation Solution
Battery swells or overheats Replace battery immediately
Battery health below 80% Replace battery (authorized service center)
Phone is 3+ years old Physical battery replacement needed
Sudden capacity drop after drop/water damage Hardware fault — service required

Pro Tips
  • Enable Battery protection (80% limit) in HyperOS if you charge overnight — this dramatically slows battery aging: Settings → Battery → Battery protection.
  • Avoid full 0%→100% cycles daily — keeping between 20%–80% maximizes battery lifespan.
