How to Check If Your Xiaomi Phone Has Been Hacked or Compromised

Worried your Xiaomi phone might be hacked? While modern Xiaomi devices with HyperOS are secure, targeted attacks, malicious apps, and phishing can still compromise a device. Here's how to check and what to do.

Warning Signs Your Xiaomi Phone May Be Compromised
  • 🔋 Rapid, unexplained battery drain without heavy use
  • 📶 High data usage from apps you don't actively use
  • 🌡️ Phone gets hot even when idle
  • 💬 Texts or calls you didn't make appearing in logs
  • 🔔 Pop-up ads appearing on the home screen or during calls
  • 🔐 Password changed without your action (Mi Account warning email)
  • 📱 Unknown apps installed that you didn't download
  • 🐢 Sudden severe slowdown without clear cause
Security Check Steps
Step 1: Check Installed Apps

1. Go to Settings → Apps → All apps.
2. Sort by Installation date — look for unfamiliar apps installed recently.
3. Check apps with Administrator access at Settings → Security → Device admin apps.

Step 2: Run Xiaomi Security Scan

1. Open the Security app (pre-installed on all Xiaomi phones).
2. Tap Virus scan.
3. Also run Privacy protection → Permission record to see which apps accessed your camera, microphone, or location recently.

Step 3: Review Mi Account Login Activity

1. Go to account.xiaomi.com on a browser.
2. Check ""Recent logins"" for unfamiliar devices or locations.
3. If suspicious, tap ""Remove all other devices"" immediately.

Step 4: Check Network Data Usage

1. Go to Settings → Connection & sharing → Data usage.
2. Sort by usage — apps consuming unexpected data may be communicating with external servers.

What to Do If Hacked

1. Change your Mi Account password immediately (use a strong, unique password).
2. Enable 2-Factor Authentication on Mi Account.
3. Uninstall suspicious apps via Settings → Apps.
4. Factory reset if the problem persists (back up data first).
5. Restore from a clean backup (not the most recent, which may include malware).

Tip: Use Dr.Fone – Phone Backup to create a secure backup before and after cleaning, so you can restore only clean data.

Regular security checks every 1–2 months are good practice for any smartphone user.
