How to Enable and Customize Reading Mode (Eye Comfort) on Xiaomi HyperOS
Staring at your Xiaomi screen for hours strains your eyes. HyperOS includes a powerful Reading Mode (also called Eye Comfort / Eye Protection) that filters blue light and adjusts colour temperature to keep your eyes comfortable.
What Reading Mode Does
- Reduces blue light emission by shifting display colour to warm tones
- Lowers eye fatigue during nighttime reading
- Works alongside the standard Night Mode (dark theme)
How to Enable Reading Mode
Method 1: Control Center
1. Swipe down from the top of the screen to open the Control Center.
2. Find the Reading Mode tile (eye icon). Tap once to enable.
3. If not visible, tap the pencil/edit icon to add it.
Method 2: Settings
1. Go to Settings → Display → Reading mode.
2. Toggle Reading mode on.
3. Tap Schedule to set automatic on/off times (e.g., 9 PM – 7 AM).
Customising the Warm Tone
Under Reading Mode settings, drag the Colour Temperature slider:
- Left (cooler): subtle warm tint — good for daytime use
- Right (warmer): strong amber tint — best for dark rooms before sleep
Reading Mode vs Eye Comfort (HyperOS 3)
HyperOS 3 introduced an upgraded Eye Comfort mode with AI-adaptive brightness. It adjusts warmth dynamically based on:
- Ambient light sensor data
- Time of day
- Whether you're holding the phone at reading distance
Enable it at Settings → Display → Eye Comfort → Adaptive Eye Comfort.
Tips for Best Results
| Scenario | Recommended Setting |
|---|---|
| Daytime indoor use | Standard display, auto-brightness on |
| Evening reading | Reading Mode + reduced brightness |
| Dark room before bed | Reading Mode + Night Mode (dark theme) + warm tint max |
| Long article/e-book | Full Reading Mode + font size increase |
Bonus: Combine Reading Mode with Dr.Fone's Screen Mirror to read documents on a larger display while keeping eye comfort settings active on the phone.
