How to Record and Transcribe Lectures Using Xiaomi Phone

Xiaomi's built-in Recorder app (and Google Recorder) can record and auto-transcribe lectures in real time — turning spoken words into searchable, shareable text.

Method 1 – Xiaomi Recorder App (Built-In)

The Recorder app is pre-installed on all Xiaomi/Redmi/POCO phones:

  1. Open Recorder app (search in app drawer if not on home screen).
  2. Tap the red record button to start.
  3. On HyperOS 2+: tap the text icon (T) to enable Live Transcription — text appears on screen as the speaker talks.
  4. Tap Stop when done.
  5. The recording is saved with synchronized text transcript.

Access recordings: Recorder → My recordings → tap any file → transcript appears alongside audio.

Method 2 – Google Recorder (Best Transcription Quality)

Google Recorder offers superior AI transcription with speaker labeling:
1. Install Google Recorder from Play Store.
2. Tap record — transcription happens in real time, fully on-device.
3. After recording: full searchable transcript auto-generated.
4. Search keywords within the recording — jumps directly to that moment in audio.

Google Recorder transcription works offline (English only offline; more languages online).

Recording Tips for Lectures
  • Place phone on the desk, microphone facing speaker — not in pocket.
  • Distance: 1–3 meters from the lecturer for best transcription accuracy.
  • Enable Do Not Disturb before lecture — notification sounds corrupt recording.
  • Set screen to stay awake during recording: Settings → Display → Screen timeout → 30 minutes.
Storage and File Format

Sharing Transcripts

  • Xiaomi Recorder: recording → Share → share as audio + text.
  • Google Recorder: recording → Share transcript → exports as .txt or copies to clipboard.
🤔Note:

  • For multiple speakers (group discussions): Google Recorder's speaker diarization labels "Speaker 1, Speaker 2" automatically.
  • Combine with Notion or Google Docs — paste transcript → use AI summary to create lecture notes in minutes.

App Format Typical Size (1hr)
Xiaomi Recorder .m4a 50–80 MB
Google Recorder .m4a + transcript 50–80 MB + text
