How to Record Log Video on Xiaomi Phone and Colour Grade It for Cinematic Look

Log video recording is a professional videography technique that captures more dynamic range by intentionally underexposing highlights and preserving shadows — giving editors more latitude in colour grading. Xiaomi's flagship phones now support this.

Which Xiaomi Phones Support Log Video?
  • Xiaomi 15 Ultra: 10-bit Log video up to 8K
  • Xiaomi 15 Pro: 10-bit LOG video up to 4K60fps
  • Xiaomi 14 Ultra: 10-bit LOG video
  • Xiaomi 15: 10-bit LOG video in some modes
How to Enable Log Video on Xiaomi

1. Open the Camera app.
2. Swipe to Video mode → tap More or the resolution/format menu.
3. Select Pro Video mode.
4. In Pro Video, tap the colour profile option → choose Log.
5. Also select 10-bit colour depth if available.
6. Set resolution and frame rate (e.g., 4K@24fps for cinematic look).

What Log Video Looks Like (Raw)

Log footage appears flat, grey, and washed out directly from the camera — this is correct. The colour information is preserved but needs a LUT (Look-Up Table) applied in post to ""develop"" the image.

How to Colour Grade Log Video
Step 1: Import to DaVinci Resolve (free)

1. Create a new project → import your Xiaomi Log clips.
2. Go to Project Settings → Color Management.
3. Set Color Science to DaVinci YRGB Color Managed.
4. Set input colour space to Xiaomi Log or apply the manufacturer's LUT.

Step 2: Apply a LUT

Xiaomi provides a correction LUT (download from c.mi.com or request via Feedback app):
1. In the Color page, right-click the node → LUTs → Import LUT.
2. Select the Xiaomi Log → Rec.709 LUT.
3. The footage now looks natural — apply further creative grading on top.

Step 3: CapCut Quick Grading (Mobile)

1. Import Log clip into CapCut.
2. Apply the LOG-Fix filter (under Filters → Cinematic).
3. Adjust exposure, saturation, and contrast to taste.
