How to Unlock the Bootloader on Xiaomi Phone Under HyperOS (2026 Method)

Xiaomi's bootloader unlock process changed significantly with HyperOS. The old seven-day countdown is replaced by a community app permission system — here is the complete 2025 walkthrough.

Why Unlock the Bootloader?

Unlocking allows you to flash custom ROMs (like Xiaomi.eu), install TWRP recovery, or run rooted apps. It also voids your warranty and increases security risk, so proceed only if you need it.

Requirements Before You Start
  • A Xiaomi Mi Account (at least 30 days old)
  • Account must be linked to your phone in Settings → Mi Account
  • A Windows PC with ADB/Fastboot drivers installed
  • Developer Options enabled (Settings → About phone → tap MIUI/HyperOS version 7 times)
  • USB debugging turned on
Step 1 — Apply for Unlock Permission (New 2025 Step)

1. Install the Xiaomi Community app (Global version from Google Play, or CN version from Xiaomi's site for Chinese ROM devices).
2. Log in with your Mi Account.
3. Go to Me → Unlock bootloader → Apply.
4. Pass the short knowledge quiz Xiaomi introduced in 2025.
5. Wait for approval — typically 3–7 days. You are limited to one device per year.

Step 2 — Download the Unlock Tool

Download MiUnlock from the official page: miui.com/unlock/download (Windows only).

Step 3 — Bind Account to Device

1. On your phone: Settings → Additional settings → Developer options → Mi Unlock status → Add account and device.
2. Connect to the internet and confirm.

Step 4 — Boot to Fastboot and Unlock

1. Power off your phone. Hold Volume Down + Power until the Fastboot screen appears.
2. Connect phone to PC via USB.
3. Open MiUnlock.exe, sign in with your Mi Account.
4. The tool detects your device. Click Unlock.
5. Confirm the warning dialogs.
6. Unlocking takes 30–60 seconds. The phone reboots automatically.

After Unlocking
  • A ""Bootloader unlocked"" warning will briefly appear at every boot — this is normal.
  • You can now flash Xiaomi.eu ROM or a custom recovery.
  • Factory data is wiped during unlock — back up everything first.

Pro Tip

If you just want a cleaner HyperOS without ads and with call recording, Xiaomi.eu is the safest option — it uses official Xiaomi source code with community improvements, no bootloader unlock required for updates once installed.
