How to Set Up and Use Mi Home App to Control Xiaomi Smart Home Devices
Xiaomi's Mi Home app (also called Xiaomi Home) is the control hub for over 200 million smart home devices — from robot vacuums and air purifiers to smart bulbs, security cameras, and kitchen appliances.
Getting Started with Mi Home
1. Download the Xiaomi Home app from Google Play or GetApps.
2. Sign in with your Mi Account (same account as your phone).
3. Set your country/region — this determines which devices and services are available.
4. Tap Add device (+) to begin adding your first smart device.
Adding Devices to Mi Home
Smart Bulbs / Plugs / Switches (Wi-Fi)
1. Power on the device and put it in pairing mode (usually hold the reset button until it flashes).
2. In Mi Home → Add device → scan or select device type.
3. Follow on-screen Wi-Fi pairing steps.
4. Name the device and assign it to a room.
Xiaomi Robot Vacuums
1. Power on and hold the home button until it beeps.
2. In Mi Home → Add device → Cleaning → [Your vacuum model].
3. Connect via 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi (5 GHz not supported by most vacuum models).
4. Complete the mapping run via Mi Home.
Xiaomi Smart Cameras
1. Power on camera and scan QR code shown in Mi Home.
2. Assign to a room and enable recording settings.
3. View live feeds at any time directly from Mi Home.
Creating Automation Routines
Mi Home's Automation feature is powerful:
1. Tap Automation → Add automation (+).
2. Set a trigger: time, device state, location, or voice.
3. Set an action: turn on/off devices, adjust settings, run scenes.
Example automation: ""When I arrive home (location trigger) → Turn on living room lights + Set AC to 24°C.""
Creating Scenes (One-Tap Shortcuts)
1. Tap Scenes → Add scene.
2. Name it (e.g., ""Good Night"").
3. Add multiple device actions (turn off all lights, lock smart lock, start air purifier).
4. Save — tap this scene from the home screen to run all actions at once.
Mi Home Widget (HyperOS)
Add quick controls to your Xiaomi home screen:
1. Long-press home screen → Widgets → Xiaomi Home.
2. Add device control widgets — directly toggle lights, plugs, and more without opening the app.
Tip: Enable Local Control in Mi Home settings for faster device response and offline control when the internet is unavailable.
