How to Enable and Use Multiple User Accounts on Xiaomi Phone

Xiaomi's Multiple Users feature lets you run entirely separate phone environments on one device — each with its own apps, settings, notifications, and accounts. It is different from Second Space (which shares the same account). Multiple Users is ideal for shared family phones or keeping work and personal life separate.

Multiple Users vs Second Space — What's the Difference?

How to Enable Multiple Users

1. Go to Settings → Additional settings → Users (path may vary: some HyperOS builds show it under Settings → System → Multiple users).
2. Toggle Allow multiple users to On.
3. Tap Add user.
4. Choose User (full account) or Guest (temporary, no data saved).
5. Tap Set up now — the phone switches into the new user environment.
6. Complete initial setup (Google account, Wi-Fi, etc.) for that user.

Switching Between Users
  • Swipe down to open Quick Settings.
  • Tap the user avatar icon in the top-right corner.
  • Select the account to switch to.
  • Enter that user's PIN/fingerprint if set.
Guest Mode

Guest mode creates a temporary, blank user that resets completely when removed:

1. Follow the steps above but choose Guest instead of User.
2. Hand the phone to the guest.
3. When done: switch back to your account → Settings → Users → Remove Guest.
4. All guest data is permanently deleted.

Limits and Notes
  • Maximum users: 3–4 (varies by device RAM).
  • Storage: Each user occupies separate storage space. Monitor via Settings → Storage.
  • Calls and SMS: By default, calls and SMS go to the current active user only.
  • Apps: Each user must install apps independently. Paid apps require re-purchasing unless using the same Google account.
Pro Tips
  • Assign a unique wallpaper to each user profile so you always know which account you are in.
  • Disable Allow calls and messages in Guest mode if handing the phone to a child (Settings → Users → Guest → toggle off phone/SMS).
  • HyperOS does not currently support per-user Mi Account for cloud sync — only the primary user's Mi Account syncs to Mi Cloud.
