How to Use the IR Blaster on Xiaomi Phone as a Universal TV Remote

Many Xiaomi flagship and mid-range phones include an infrared (IR) blaster at the top edge — a feature that Samsung and most other brands have quietly dropped. Combined with the Mi Remote app, your Xiaomi phone becomes a universal remote for virtually any home device.

Which Xiaomi Phones Have an IR Blaster?

Most Xiaomi 13, 14, and 15 series phones include an IR blaster. To confirm yours does:
- Check Settings → About phone → Detailed specs for ""IR Blaster"" listing, OR
- Open Mi Remote — if it launches normally, you have one. If it shows ""Not supported,"" you do not.

Setting Up Mi Remote

1. Open Mi Remote (pre-installed on HyperOS; download from GetApps if missing).
2. Tap Add remote.
3. Select your device type: TV, Air Conditioner, Set-top Box, Projector, Fan, DVD, etc.
4. Choose your brand (Samsung, LG, Sony, Hisense, Panasonic — 6,000+ brands supported).
5. Point your phone at the device and tap Test buttons to find the matching remote profile.
6. Once buttons respond, tap Save.

Tips for Better Range
  • Point the top edge of your Xiaomi phone (where the IR emitter is) at the device.
  • IR works best within 5–10 metres with a clear line of sight.
  • Walls and glass block IR signals — it is not Wi-Fi.
  • Bright sunlight can interfere — move indoors or shade the sensor.
Adding Multiple Remotes

Mi Remote supports multiple devices in one app. After saving your TV remote, tap + to add your AC, set-top box, and projector. Switch between them via the top tabs.

Custom Buttons

For advanced users: tap Edit → Add custom button in any remote profile, then use learn mode to copy signals from a physical remote that Mi Remote does not already recognise.

Pro Tip

If you cannot find your device's brand in Mi Remote, try Unified Remote or SURE Universal from the Play Store — both support Xiaomi's IR hardware and have even larger device databases.
