How to Use Wi-Fi Direct to Transfer Files Between Phones Quickly
Wi-Fi Direct allows peer-to-peer file transfer without needing a router or internet — much faster than Bluetooth. Xiaomi implements it via Quick Share (HyperOS) and the legacy Mi Drop app.
Method 1 – Quick Share (HyperOS / MIUI 13+)
Quick Share is Xiaomi's built-in Wi-Fi Direct sharing — similar to AirDrop:
Sending files:
1. Select the file(s) → tap Share → Quick Share.
2. The app scans for nearby devices.
3. On the receiving device: a notification appears → tap Accept.
Receiving files:
1. Settings → Quick Share → set visibility to Everyone (or Contacts).
2. Or: Quick Settings panel → tap Quick Share tile to make discoverable.
Method 2 – Mi Drop (Legacy, All MIUI Versions)
Mi Drop uses Wi-Fi Direct and works even without Google services:
1. Install Mi Drop from Play Store or GetApps (pre-installed on some models).
2. Open Mi Drop → tap Send → select files.
3. On receiving device: open Mi Drop → tap Receive.
4. Both devices connect automatically.

Pro Tips
- Wi-Fi Direct works without internet or a router — perfect for transfers in areas without Wi-Fi.
- For large video files (1 GB+), Wi-Fi Direct completes transfers 10–20× faster than Bluetooth.
- Quick Share is built into HyperOS and doesn't require any extra app — it's the recommended first choice.
