How to Use Xiaomi Find My Device (Remote Lock & Erase from Browser)

If your Xiaomi phone is lost or stolen, Xiaomi's Find My Device feature lets you locate, lock, and remotely erase it from any web browser — without needing another phone.

Pre-Conditions (Must Be Set Up Beforehand)

For Find My Device to work, these must have been enabled before the phone was lost:

  • ✅ Signed in to Mi Account on the phone.
  • ✅ Location services enabled (Settings → Location → On).
  • ✅ Find My Device enabled: Settings → Passwords & security → Find my device → On.
  • ✅ Phone connected to internet (mobile data or Wi-Fi).

How to Access Find My Device
  1. From any browser: go to find.mi.com.
  2. Sign in with your Mi Account credentials.
  3. Your registered devices appear — select the lost phone.

Available Remote Actions
Action What It Does
Locate Shows phone's current GPS location on map
Ring Makes phone ring loudly (even on silent)
Lock Locks screen with a custom message and contact number
Erase Factory resets remotely, wiping all data

Using Remote Lock
  1. find.mi.com → select device → Lock.
  2. Enter a lock message (e.g., "This phone is lost. Call: +1234567890").
  3. Set a lock PIN (different from screen PIN — finder needs this to unlock even with factory reset).
  4. Confirm → phone locks immediately.

Using Remote Erase (Last Resort)

⚠️ This permanently deletes all data. Use only if recovery is impossible.

  1. find.mi.com → Erase device.
  2. Confirm with Mi Account password.
  3. Phone is factory reset remotely — location tracking stops after erase.

Also Use Google's Find My Device

As a backup:
1. Go to android.com/find → sign in with Google account.
2. Locate, lock, or erase — works independently of Xiaomi's system.

Pro Tips
  • Enable both Mi Find My Device and Google Find My Device — having two independent tracking systems doubles your recovery chances.
  • After remote erase, report the phone as stolen to police with the IMEI number (found on original box or Settings → About phone).
