How to Use Xiaomi Phone with Android Auto or CarPlay

Xiaomi phones run Android — so they support Android Auto, not Apple CarPlay. Here's how to set it up and what to expect.

Important: Xiaomi Phones Use Android Auto (Not CarPlay)

CarPlay is exclusive to iPhones. Xiaomi and all Android phones use Android Auto for car integration.

Requirements
  • Car: Android Auto-compatible head unit (most 2017+ cars, or aftermarket head unit).
  • Phone: Xiaomi phone running Android 6.0+ (all current models qualify).
  • Cable: USB-A to USB-C cable (for wired setup) — use a high-quality data cable, not charge-only.
  • App: Android Auto (pre-installed on most Xiaomi phones or download from Play Store).

Method 1 – Wired Android Auto Setup
  1. Connect Xiaomi phone to car's USB port with a USB data cable.
  2. An Android Auto prompt appears on the car screen.
  3. On your phone: allow Android Auto permissions when prompted.
  4. Follow on-screen setup.

Method 2 – Wireless Android Auto Setup

Available on Xiaomi phones with Android 11+ (most current models):
1. First-time setup requires a wired connection to pair.
2. Once paired: connect phone to car Wi-Fi or enable wireless Android Auto in Settings → Android Auto → Wireless Android Auto.
3. Future connections are automatic when Bluetooth connects to the car.
