How to Encrypt iPhone Backup?

Know the Two Backup Types
  • iCloud backups are encrypted automatically.
  • Computer backups (Finder on Mac or iTunes on Windows/older macOS) are encrypted only if you enable it.
Encrypt a Computer Backup (Finder or iTunes)
  1. Connect iPhone to your computer using a cable.
  2. Open Finder (macOS Catalina+) or iTunes.
  3. Select your iPhone.
  4. In Backups, choose This Computer.
  5. Enable Encrypt local backup (or Encrypt iPhone backup).
  6. Create and store the encryption password safely (you may not be able to restore without it).
  7. Click Back Up Now.
What Encryption Adds

Encrypted backups can include saved passwords, Wi‑Fi settings, website history, and Health data (coverage varies by iOS version).

🤔 Protip:

Warning: If you forget the backup encryption password, Apple can’t recover it for you. Consider using a password manager.

Optional: Dr.Fone Recommendation

For an alternative backup workflow, Wondershare Dr.Fone can help you create selective backups and restore specific data types without overwriting everything.
