How to Sideload APK Files on Samsung Galaxy Safely

Sideloading lets you install Android apps (APK files) on Samsung Galaxy that aren't available on Google Play or Galaxy Store. Here's how to do it safely.

Step 1: Download the APK from a Trusted Source
  • APKMirror.com — vetted, verified APKs
  • Official developer websites (e.g., download directly from the developer)
  • ❌ Avoid: random APK sites, Telegram groups, or unofficial mirrors
Step 2: Locate the Downloaded APK

Open My Files → Downloads and tap the APK file you downloaded.

Step 3: Allow Installation from This Source

The first time you try to install an APK from a file manager, you'll see: "For your security, your phone is not allowed to install unknown apps from this source."

  • Tap Settings → toggle on Allow from this source for your file manager only.
Step 4: Install the APK

Go back to the APK and tap Install → follow the prompts.

Step 5: Immediately Disable Unknown Sources

After installation:

  1. Go to Settings → Apps → [File Manager App] → Install Unknown Apps.
  2. Toggle it Off again.

This prevents other apps (or malware) from silently installing packages.

Step 6: Run a Security Scan

Open Samsung Members → Support → Diagnostics or run Play Protect scan (Play Store → Profile icon → Play Protect → Scan).

⚠️ Warning

If Auto Blocker is enabled, sideloading will be blocked. You'll need to temporarily disable Auto Blocker in Settings → Security and Privacy → Auto Blocker.
