How Water-Resistant Is Samsung Galaxy? Understanding IP68 Rating
What does Samsung Galaxy's IP68 rating actually mean? Learn what water exposure your Galaxy can handle — and what it can't.
What IP68 Means
| Rating | Dust | Water |
|---|---|---|
| IP67 | Fully dust-tight | 1m depth for 30 min |
| IP68 (Galaxy standard) | Fully dust-tight | Up to 1.5–2m for 30 min in fresh water |
Galaxy S25 Series: Rated IP68 (up to 2 meters, 30 minutes in fresh water).
What Galaxy IP68 Covers
- ✅ Accidental splashes and rain
- ✅ Dropped in a pool or puddle momentarily
- ✅ Light shower use
- ✅ Shallow fresh water submersion (<1.5m for 30 min)
What Galaxy IP68 Does NOT Cover
- ❌ Salt water (ocean, sea, pool chlorine) — accelerates corrosion
- ❌ High-pressure water jets (showers with pressure)
- ❌ Deep water or long submersion
- ❌ After physical damage (cracked frame breaks seal)
- ❌ Water damage after the IP seal degrades over time
Important Notes
- IP ratings are tested in still, fresh water under lab conditions.
- The seal degrades over time — a 3-year-old Galaxy has significantly less water resistance than when new.
- Samsung's warranty does not cover water damage, even on IP68 phones.
If Your Galaxy Gets Wet
- Dry immediately with a soft cloth.
- Don't plug in charger until port moisture warning clears.
- Don't use the phone aggressively if it was submerged beyond IP68 limits.
