How to download photos from Google Photos to iPhone

Google Photos helps to manage space on your iPhone since it saves photos in the cloud. This means that once you have a photo in Google Photos, you can delete it from your device. So what happens if you get a new iPhone or you need a photo you deleted from your current iPhone?
You need to get it back from Google Photos into your smartphone library. While this may seem a herculean task at first consideration, it is quite easy.

There are two ways to transfer photos from Google Photos to iPhone. They are:

  1. Part One: Download Google Photos to iPhone directly on iPhone
  2. Part Two: Transfer photos from Google Drive to iPhone through a computer

Are you ready to grasp the secret behind each? Let’s discuss each of these processes in the next few paragraphs.

Part One: Download Google Photos to iPhone directly on iPhone

In this section, we will show you how to download photos straight to your iPhone from Google Photos. The beauty with this process is that you start and complete it on your iPhone. That must be great news if you desire to just save a few pictures on the go.

We have split this process into two for easier comprehension. The first stage involves downloading the photos from Google Photos to the app on your iPhone. You need to do this if you didn’t take the photos with your phone originally.

To download a few pictures from Google Photos to your device, take the following steps.

Step 1 – Download and install the Google Photos app on your iPhone. You can download the app from the App Store.

Step 2 – Open Google Photos after installing it. If you had it installed before on your iPhone, then you can simply open it.

Step 3 – Navigate through the tabs in the app to locate the photos you desire to download. You may find the photos in the “Sharing” tab if you didn’t take them with your phone. The “Sharing” tab is located at the bottom right-hand corner of your screen. Another place to check is the “Albums” tab on the left side of the screen.

Step 4 – If you plan to download a single photo, you can tap on the “Save” option at the top of the screen. Doing this saves the photo to the app library on your iPhone.

tap “save” to download

Step 5 – If you plan to save more than one picture, you can long tap on one and select the rest. A blue mark appears on each picture you select. After making your selection, tap the button toward the top-right corner of the screen. It is a cloud having an arrow pointing downward in the middle. This downloads the selected pictures to the app on your device.

tap “the cloud icon” to download

Step 6 – To confirm the downloads, check the “Photos” tab in the app. It is located at the bottom left corner of your screen. The pictures should be arranged in order of how they were downloaded.

Step 2 – Tapping the dots presents you with a pop-up menu. Select “Save to Device” to download the pictures to your iPhone photo gallery.

If you desire to download multiple pictures to your iPhone gallery, then you should take these steps:

Step 1 – Long tap the different photos one after the other until the blue check appears over them. Now, tap, the button at the top middle of the page. This button has an arrow proceeding from a box.

tap “save to device” to download

Step 2 – A pop-up menu appears following your last action. Tap on the “Save to device” option. Wait a while for the photos to download. The time it takes depends on the number of photos you are downloading.

There you have it, you have just downloaded your photos to your iPhone from Google Photos. Simple, right? Now let’s show you how to import Google Photos to iPhone using your computer.

Part Two: Transfer photos from Google Drive to iPhone through a computer

In some cases, you need to download the pictures from Google Photos to Google Drive on your computer. From here, you can download them to your iPhone. While this may seem a little complicated, as you read on, you’ll find it very easy.

The question that begs for an answer is whether you plan to keep Google Drive in sync with your computer or not. Sometimes, all you want to do is a one-time download. In this case, you don’t need to download “Backup and Sync.”

Whichever process you decide on, we’ve got you covered. Take the following steps to transfer photos to your iPhone from Google Drive:

Step 1 – Open Google Drive website (https://drive.google.com/)

Step 2 – You should be logged in automatically if you have used Google Drive in that web browser. However, if you are not, simply log in using your Google account details.

Step 3 – After logging in, select the images you desire to download from your Cloud account. Hold down “CTRL” while clicking the photos if you are downloading more than one picture. For a Mac computer, hold down “CMD” instead. If you need to download all the photos in your drive, select all using CTRL + A (Windows) or CMD + A (Mac).

Step 4 – Now click on “Menu” to find the “Download” option. Click this to download the images to your computer.

Step 5 – These photos will download to your computer in a ZIP folder. To gain access to these images, you need to extract the files.

If you would like to sync your computer with Google Drive then you need an app known as “Backup and Sync.” Using this app makes it possible to see everything on your Google Drive on your computer. With this, every action taken on the photos in either location reflects on both sides. Isn’t this cool?

How do you get started?

Step 1 – Download “Backup and Sync” from https://www.google.com/drive/download/.

Step 2 – Click “Agree and Download” to download the app to your computer.

Step 3 – Double-click on the file to install the app.

Step 4 – Click “Get Started” on the next pop-up window after installing the app.

Step 5 – Use your Google details to sign in.

Step 6 – You will see an array of checkboxes with several options. Select the items you will like to sync so that they can reflect on your PC.

Step 7 – Click “Next” to continue.

Step 8 – Click “Got It” to move ahead.

Step 9 – A window pops-up with the option “Sync My Drive to this computer.” Check this box.

Step 10 – Decide on the folders that will sync from Google Drive. You can select all the folders or a few categories.

Step 11 – Begin the download of the files by clicking “Start.” This step creates copies of the selected folders on your PC.

The process is simple and straightforward but that’s not all. You have only succeeded in moving your photos to your computer. Congratulations!

Now you need to transfer Google Photos to iPhone. Don’t be scared, it’s not a complicated process. There are two ways of moving your photos to your iPhone from your computer.

  1. Using a file manager app.
  2. Using a USB cable.

A file manager software helps you sync with your computer and then you can select the photos you need. We suggest you make use of Dr.Fone Phone Manager. This software is free and easy to use.

If you don’t want to download a file manager app, you can connect your iPhone to your computer using a USB. This is also simple but not so safe for your device. We advise you to use the first method.
