To start trading, you and your friends must reach trainer level 10. Even though you can have friends in Pokémon Go from around the world, you can only trade with those in your area.

Currently, the top trade distance in Pokémon Go is 100 meters or around 300 feet. If your friends are further away, you won’t be able to trade with them.

You can occasionally do long-distance trading in Pokémon Go during special events. However, there’s a limit even then – the top distance ever allowed was around 12 kilometers or 7.4 miles.

As mentioned, a Pokémon Go long-distance trade is only technically possible during some special events when the limitation is lifted. Otherwise, you’d have to physically travel to a different area/city/country to meet up with friends in a 100-meter radius and start trading “long distance”.

Whether you’re trading with your friends nearby or not, there are a few strategies you’ll likely want to stick to increase the value of your trades:

• Trade high level-low IV– Individual Values (IV) make every Pokémon unique. It’s usually in your best interest to keep high IV Pokémon in your collection as they could prove to be valuable in battle;
• Increase your trade distance whenever you can– the amount of candy you’ll receive per trade is higher when the Pokémon you have is caught in a more distant location;
• Trade with better friends– trading with a best friend or at least an ultra friend in Pokémon Go is much cheaper than trading with just a great or a good friend. Increase your friendship levels by interacting with friends consistently, and only then start trading with them.

Aside from following these tips for better trades, you’ll need to develop your own unique trading strategy that works for you. Every trainer has different needs and objectives, so choosing which Pokémon is the best to trade will ultimately depend on your play style and overall preferences.

Part 3. How to Use Dr. Fone Virtual Location for Long-Distance Trading in Pokémon Go
